The National Sports Authority (NSA) has officially extended the mandate of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Executive Board by 30 days, effective from Friday, July 19 to Monday, August 19, 2025.

The extension follows a high-level meeting held on Tuesday, July 15, between officials of the NSA and members of the GBA’s interim executive board, led by acting president Roger Barnor.

Initially, the GBA had proposed July 19, 2025, as the date to hold its elections, in light of the expiration of the current administration’s tenure on July 22. The push for elections followed the resignation of former GBA President Abraham Neequaye Kotey.

However, the NSA opted to delay the electoral process, citing the need to fully implement the recommendations of the Ministerial Committee tasked with investigating the tragic death of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, who passed away on March 29, 2025, during a sanctioned bout in Ghana.

The extension is intended to give stakeholders adequate time to put in place critical reforms and ensure the sport’s administration aligns with safety protocols and broader governance recommendations.

With the new deadline set for August 19, the GBA is expected to work closely with the NSA to finalize all necessary processes, ahead of a smooth and credible transition.
