Nagelsmann Admits Germany Lost Composure Despite Win Over Ghana
Julian Nagelsmann has revealed that Germany struggled to maintain composure during their narrow 2-1 victory over the Black Stars in Monday’s international friendly in Stuttgart.
Although a late strike from Deniz Undav secured the win, the German manager acknowledged that his side lost control at certain stages after an encouraging start.
Germany entered the match on the back of an entertaining 4-3 win over Switzerland, and Nagelsmann believes his team showed improvement against Ghana, despite the lapses.
Reflecting on the performance, the coach pointed to a shift in discipline as the turning point in the game.
“The game started brilliantly from our perspective. If we maintain our tactical discipline, things go really well. We then became impatient because we were so desperate to score,” Nagelsmann said.
“That led to too much freestyle play, and then we became too vulnerable to counter-attacks,” he added.
Ghana’s resilience and ability to threaten on the break unsettled the hosts, particularly after the Black Stars drew level in the second half. However, Germany ultimately regained control late on to secure back-to-back victories during the international break.
For Nagelsmann, the result was positive, but the performance served as a reminder of the need for structure and patience as his side continues preparations for upcoming international competitions.
