English giant’s Manchester United FC has sealed the transfer of Andre Onana to Old Trafford after weeks of speculations. The Shot-stopper joined from Italian side Inter Milan after successful talks between both parties.

The Cameroonian International had his medicals on Tuesday and was successful, before signing a long-term contract.

The 27-year-old signed a five-year deal with an option to extend for another year. He comes in as replacement of David De Gea, who departed the club after a 12-year spell.

Onana’s deal is worth €51 million (£43.8 million), with €4 million (£3.4 million) in potential add-ons. He becomes the third most expensive goalkeeper in football history, behind Kepa of Chelsea FC and Allison Becker of Liverpool FC with €80m and €62.5 m respectively.

The former Ajax gloves man reunite with his former coach Erik Ten Hag whom he worked with at Ajax Amsterdam and is hoping to start a new chapter with the Dutch manager for the second time.

“To join Manchester United is an incredible honour and I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way,” Onana said.

“Walking out at Old Trafford to defend our goal and contribute to the team will be another amazing experience. This is the start of a new journey for me, with new teammates, and new ambitions to fight for.

Onana departs the former Serie A champions after just a season. Last season, the exceptional goalkeeper played 41 times for the Nerazzurri in all competitions, including a Champions League final appearance against Manchester City which ended in a 1-0 defeat. However, Onana performed admirably in goal and demonstrated his great distributing skills.

He will join the team for their pre-season tour in the United States where they are expected to play Arsenal, Wrexham, Real Madrid, and Borussia Dortmund before the new season begins.
