Luckassen Makes Ghana Debut in Narrow Loss to Germany
Derrick Luckassen marked his first appearance for the Black Stars after featuring in their 2-1 international friendly defeat to Germany in Stuttgart.
The Dutch-born centre-back was introduced in the second half, coming on in the 56th minute to replace Kojo Oppong Peprah, who was forced off through injury. Having remained on the bench during the previous match against Austria, Luckassen was handed his first opportunity to impress on the international stage.
His inclusion reflects Ghana’s ongoing efforts to reinforce their defensive unit ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Over his 34-minute cameo, the experienced defender showed composure at the back, registering two clearances and competing strongly in duels as he settled into the pace of international football.
The 30-year-old recently completed a nationality switch, making him eligible to represent Ghana, and his debut comes at a crucial time as the technical team evaluates options for the squad.
With the Black Stars set to compete in a challenging World Cup group alongside Panama, Croatia, and England, Luckassen’s arrival could offer added depth and experience in defence as preparations continue.
