Cercle Brugge midfielder Lawrence Agyekum has set his sights on becoming a regular fixture in the Black Stars setup following a promising start to his international career.

The 21-year-old, who recently completed a permanent move to the Belgian top-flight club, made headlines after scoring his debut goal for Ghana in the 4-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago during the Unity Cup third-place playoff last month.

Agyekum, who also made his senior debut earlier in Ghana’s resounding 5-0 win over Chad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, is now focused on building momentum both at club and international level.

In an exclusive interview with Joy Sports, the energetic midfielder expressed his delight at his recent progress and outlined his ambition to become a regular in the national team.

“I wasn’t surprised at scoring against Trinidad and Tobago because I knew I had to score,” Agyekum said, reflecting on his first goal for Ghana.

“Now I want to keep focusing on my development to be consistent at the club level, because if you don’t do well, it’s going to be difficult to get a national team call-up.”

The former WAFA and RB Salzburg midfielder emphasized the importance of consistency as the key to staying relevant in both club and country plans.

“I just want to be consistent and then hopefully if I get a call-up, I will still give my 100% on the pitch like I do at the club level,” he added.

Agyekum’s performances in Belgium have not gone unnoticed, with clubs including Dutch giants Feyenoord and French Ligue 1 side Strasbourg reportedly monitoring his progress closely ahead of the 2025 summer transfer window.

His rise comes at a crucial time for the Black Stars, who are in a rebuilding phase under a new technical direction.
