Asante Kotoko has voiced strong dissatisfaction with the decision to shift their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round fixture against Nigeria’s Kwara United to the Accra Sports Stadium instead of their traditional home ground, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The Porcupine Warriors are scheduled to host the Nigerian side between September 19 and 21, 2025. However, logistical challenges and delays in venue clearance have compelled authorities to designate Accra as the approved venue.

Speaking on Akoma 87.9 FM, Kotoko’s Communications Director, Samuel Sarfo Duku, lamented the financial and emotional toll the venue switch will place on the club and its supporters.

“The financial burden of having to move the team from Kumasi to a different venue for the entire duration of the competition cannot be underestimated. Hotel bills, transportation, and the lack of strong supporter presence all pose a serious problem,” he said.

He also emphasizing that it could have been prevented with better planning and earlier intervention.

“From the very moment Kotoko qualified for the MTN FA Cup final, it was clear they were likely to represent Ghana in Africa. Even after winning the FA Cup, it’s been about eight weeks now. We had sent our request as far back as June 2, and all club licensing issues had been resolved. We were therefore expecting work to begin much earlier. I must say that we are highly disappointed as a club.” Mr. Duku explained.

Despite the setback of losing the chance to host the crucial tie at their Baba Yara fortress, Asante Kotoko will now shift full focus to preparations for the preliminary clash in Accra, determined to advance in Africa’s second-tier competition.
