Minister of Youth and Sports, Kofi Iddie Adams, has given assurances that the government is working to settle the outstanding bonuses owed to the Black Queens following their impressive campaign at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The Ghanaian women’s national team earned a bronze medal at the tournament after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over South Africa in the third-place playoff in July. However, several months on, the players are yet to receive all their promised bonuses — a situation that has raised concerns ahead of their 2026 WAFCON qualifying clash with Egypt later this month.

Speaking in an interview with Joy News, Minister Adams confirmed that the matter is being handled, noting that the Black Queens are not the only team awaiting payment.

“Their last bonus has not been paid, not all their bonuses,” he explained. “It’s in the process of being worked on. They are not the only ones. Even the U-20 boys have not received their package.”

The Black Queens are preparing to face Egypt in the final qualifying round later this month as they seek to secure a place at next year’s WAFCON, which also doubles as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Additionally, Ghana’s senior women’s team is scheduled to play a high-profile international friendly against England in December at St. Mary’s Stadium in Southampton, as part of their ongoing preparations for upcoming tournaments.
