Kobby Stonne Wins UniMAC SRC External Affairs Race
Alex Kobina Stonne, widely known as Kobby Stonne, has been elected SRC External Affairs Commissioner at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) following elections held on Friday, January 16, 2026.
Stonne emerged victorious after a keenly contested poll, securing the mandate to represent the university’s student body in engagements beyond campus and to champion initiatives that connect students to external opportunities and partnerships.
Central to his vision is the UniMAC Student Transport Support Initiative, a proposal aimed at securing a dedicated student bus to facilitate academic fieldwork, project activities, excursions, and official SRC programs. Stonne plans to engage university management and alumni while also exploring corporate sponsorships and crowdfunding avenues, with a strong emphasis on accountability and long-term sustainability.
Another key policy pillar is the UniMAC Student SIM Project, designed to ease the financial pressure of high data and call costs on students. The initiative seeks partnerships with major telecommunications companies to provide UniMAC students with affordable data bundles and discounted call rates. According to Stonne, early discussions with telecom marketing executives suggest the project is realistic, once a verified student database and formal framework are established.
Beyond transport and connectivity, the newly elected commissioner is also prioritising student wellbeing through the Revival of the UniMAC Sports and Wellness Program. The initiative aims to reignite campus sports culture by reintroducing both competitive and recreational activities, organising inter-departmental games, and collaborating with sports brands for equipment support. The program will begin with accessible activities such as chess and arm wrestling, alongside fitness and mental wellness campaigns.
In addition, the sports revival plan includes capacity-building opportunities for sports journalism students, with proposed collaborations involving SWAG UniMAC and the Ghana Olympic Committee.
Stonne’s professional background in media, with experience at Adom TV, Adom FM, and Asempa 94.7 FM, is expected to strengthen his role in communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement. His campaign slogan, “Beyond Campus Mandate,” captures his promise to leverage external networks and partnerships to deliver tangible benefits for the UniMAC student population.
With his election secured, attention now turns to implementation as students look forward to seeing his proposals translated into practical outcomes.
