Karim Zito Admits Kotoko Needs Time to Adapt Following Narrow Win Over Aduana Stars
Newly-appointed Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has admitted that it will take time for his players to fully adapt to his methods after recently taking charge of the team.
Zito stepped in following the departure of Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, who was dismissed after a series of disappointing results that left Kotoko struggling to maintain their title challenge.
The experienced coach, who recently led Dreams FC to the semifinals of the CAF Confederation Cup, oversaw his first victory with Kotoko on Sunday, as the Porcupine Warriors edged Aduana Stars 1-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The win ended a frustrating run of four games without a victory.
Speaking to the media after the match, Zito acknowledged the challenges of implementing a new system so quickly, explaining that it would take time for the players to adjust.
“Adaptation takes time, adaptation is not an easy thing. They’ve been used to the previous coach’s system… I don’t want to infuse a lot of things in them—the players,” Zito said.
“I make it simple for them because I’m yet to even know their names,” he added, underlining the gradual nature of the transition process.
Kotoko currently sit fourth on the Ghana Premier League table with 50 points, while Hearts of Oak trail closely in sixth place with 45 points.
