Kamaldeen Sulemana Vows Redemption as Black Stars Eye 2026 World Cup Qualification
Black Stars forward Kamaldeen Sulemana has reaffirmed the team’s commitment to securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Ghana, four-time African champions, have endured a difficult stretch in recent years, including back-to-back group-stage exits at the 2021 and 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments in Cameroon and Ivory Coast. Adding to their woes was the disappointment of failing to qualify for the upcoming continental showpiece.
Speaking in an interview with Showmax, the Southampton winger opened up about the team’s recent struggles and expressed the squad’s collective determination to restore pride to Ghanaian football.
“We also didn’t perform well in the last two AFCON tournaments, so we were hoping to make this year a great one,” Kamaldeen said. “We as players take the blame and take full responsibility for not qualifying, and we have apologised to the country and our fans.”
Ghana has made progress in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, registering consecutive wins over Chad and Madagascar in March. These results have put the Black Stars in a strong position in Group I, reigniting hopes of a return to the global stage.
