John Paintsil Reassigned to High Performance Unit- Henry Asante Twum
The Ghana Football Association has implemented changes within the Black Stars technical structure, with former assistant coach John Paintsil reassigned to a different role as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum confirmed that Paintsil is no longer part of the core assistant coaching team working directly under head coach Otto Addo. Instead, the former Ghana international has been moved to the High Performance Department in a broader restructuring aimed at strengthening the national team’s backroom operations.
“Now as I speak to you John Paintsil has left the core assistant coaches that is we have moved him to high performance. He is not part of the core assistants we have moved him from core assistants to high performance differently under the head coach,” Asante Twum told Peace FM.
The adjustments are part of the FA’s strategic roadmap towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The association believes refining the technical setup will enhance player development, performance monitoring, and overall team efficiency ahead of the global showpiece.
“The FA thinks these changes will help us that our aim that we want to go to the World Cup and do a good job for Ghana will be a success,” he added.
The restructuring signals a renewed push by the GFA to optimise the Black Stars’ technical framework as Ghana intensifies preparations for the next World Cup cycle.
