Ghana will mark a historic milestone in para sports this year as the nation prepares to compete at the World Para Swimming Series in Australia for the first time.

The Ghana Para Swimming Association confirmed that two athletes, Promise Wonder Atsu Aheto and Bryan Baffour Kwadjo Akoto, will represent the country at the global event, where they will undergo international classification and compete against elite para swimmers from around the world.

The championship also doubles as a qualification route to the 2026 Commonwealth Games, making the trip a significant step in Ghana’s long-term ambitions in para sports development.

Both swimmers are scheduled to feature in the 50m freestyle, 50m breaststroke and 100m breaststroke events, where they will aim to meet international standards and gain valuable exposure on the world stage.

Officials described the achievement as a result of strong collaboration among the Ghana Para Swimming Association, the National Paralympic Committee Ghana and the Ghana Olympic Committee, all working together to promote inclusivity and elite performance in sport.

As Aheto and Akoto prepare for their Australian assignment, hopes are high that their participation will inspire a new generation of para athletes and signal a new era for para swimming in Ghana.
