Ghana Drops in FIFA Rankings Amid AFCON Struggles
The Black Stars of Ghana have slipped four places in the latest FIFA World Rankings, dropping from 73rd to 77th following their disappointing campaign in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where they failed to secure a single victory in six matches.
Ghana’s points tally now stands at 1320.2, reflecting their continued decline in recent months. In September, the team dropped six spots after losing at home to Angola and drawing with Niger in Morocco. October saw another three-place drop following a goalless draw with Sudan in Accra and a 2-0 defeat in the return fixture.
This downward trend under head coach Otto Addo has been concerning. A year ago, in November 2023, Ghana was ranked 61st. Now, at 77th, the team is edging closer to their all-time low ranking of 89th, recorded in 2004.
Despite these setbacks, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has decided to retain Otto Addo, giving him another chance to turn things around.
The focus now shifts to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where Ghana will face Chad in March 2025, a crucial opportunity to rebuild confidence and restore the team’s reputation on the global stage.
