The senior men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams of Ghana are intensifying their preparations for the upcoming African Senior Continental Championship slated for June 23–30, 2025, in Morocco. The tournament will serve as the African qualifying round for the Beach Volleyball World Championships scheduled for later this year.

Training sessions are currently ongoing at Laboma Beach in Accra, with players and officials gearing up for what could be a historic outing for Ghana.

Speaking in an interview, President of the Ghana Volleyball Federation, Mr. George Tettey, expressed immense confidence in the teams’ readiness and potential.

“So far so good,” he remarked. “I think this is the best I have seen in so many years. I have no doubt that they will be able to take their slots in Morocco for the World Championship.”

Mr. Tettey attributed the progress to the rigorous training and team selection process, revealing that Ghana will present two male and two female pairs in the competition.

“It’s a double general affair, so we will raise two teams each for the men and women,” he stated. “And the ones here, it is even difficult for us to choose the best out of them now,” he added.

The men’s team, featuring standout players Paul and Hamid, recently triumphed at a major African tournament in Rwanda, overcoming professional teams from across the continent. The women’s side, spearheaded by Rashaka and Benedicta, is also said to be in top form.

“We will take the first position,” Mr. Tettey declared confidently. “We hope to get into the finals.”

The continental competition in Morocco will host 88 female pairs from 22 countries and 114 male pairs from 27 countries, presenting stiff opposition. However, the Ghanaian teams are determined to leave their mark.

Despite their current momentum, participation in the final qualification tournament in Rwanda—a prerequisite for World Cup qualification—remains uncertain due to financial constraints. Mr. Tettey issued a passionate appeal for support:

“This is a historic opportunity for Ghana. We are eager to make the country proud. With the current form of the teams, I am confident about our chances.”

Kelvin Carboo, deputy captain of the senior men’s team, echoed his president’s optimism.

We are ready for Morocco. Our goal is to qualify for the World Championship and make Ghana proud on the global stage,” Carboo said.

Juliana Otchere, a member of the women’s team, also spoke about their determination:

“We are well-prepared and optimistic about winning a medal for Ghana. We’ve had the right training environment and measures put in place to ensure success.”

With just days to go until the championship, the players remain focused and hopeful, as Ghana aims to write a new chapter in its beach volleyball history.
