GFA Congress Convenes Today with Third-Term Proposal on Agenda
The 31st Ordinary Session of Congress of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) will be held today, Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the E.T. Mensah Hall of the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence in Prampram. Proceedings are scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
The high-profile gathering will bring together football stakeholders from across the country to deliberate on key matters concerning the governance and development of the sport in Ghana.
One of the most notable items on the agenda is the controversial third-term proposal for the GFA Presidency. If approved, this amendment would extend the maximum tenure for a president from two terms (eight years) to three terms (twelve years).
The proposal has generated widespread debate within the football fraternity, with some arguing it would provide continuity and stability, while others believe it could entrench power and stifle new leadership.
In addition to the presidential term limit discussion, Congress is expected to consider various statutory amendments, approve reports, and deliberate on strategies to strengthen domestic competitions and national teams.
