The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed the appointment of Ghanaian coach Laryea Kingston as the new Head Coach for Uganda’s National Men’s Junior Teams, marking another milestone in the federation’s vision to build a strong foundation for youth football.

The announcement was made in Kampala by FUFA Chief Executive Officer, Edgar Watson, who described Kingston’s recruitment as part of the federation’s broader strategy to strengthen technical development across all junior national teams.

Kingston, a former Ghana international midfielder, joins FUFA on a two-year deal. He holds UEFA A and CAF B coaching licenses, and brings with him a wealth of experience in youth football development. Prior to this appointment, he worked with the Ghana U17 national team and played a key role in FC Nordsjaelland’s Right to Dream Academy in Denmark — a system globally recognized for producing top African talents.

He replaces Samuel Kwesi Fabin, also from Ghana, who oversaw Uganda’s U17 and U20 teams in 2019. Kingston’s arrival, therefore, reinforces FUFA’s continued confidence in Ghanaian tacticians to guide Uganda’s next generation of players.

In related news, Brian Ssenyondo will continue as head coach of the Uganda U17 team, steering the side into the upcoming FIFA U17 World Cup scheduled for next month in Qatar. Ssenyondo, who has been instrumental in the team’s qualification journey, has revealed that the global tournament will be his last assignment at the youth level, though he remains open to other national coaching opportunities.

Kingston’s appointment is expected to usher in a new era of innovation, structure, and energy within Uganda’s youth football setup. With his modern approach and proven track record in nurturing young talent, FUFA hopes to build a sustainable pathway that will ultimately produce world-class footballers for the Cranes and beyond.P
