Evelyn Nsiah Asare Calls for Greater Respect and Representation for Women in Ghanaian Sports
Chief Executive Officer of Hasaacas Ladies, Evelyn Nsiah Asare Owusu, has voiced her concerns over the lack of respect and representation for women in Ghana’s sports sector, particularly in football.
Nsiah Asare, who has been at the forefront of women’s football development in Ghana, believes it’s time for female professionals in the sporting arena to assert themselves more confidently and claim leadership roles they are qualified for.
Speaking in a candid interview on Sportsnite on Asempa FM, the accomplished sports administrator lamented the structural and cultural barriers that continue to hinder the growth and visibility of women in the industry.
“In the sports space in Ghana, the women don’t get the deserved respect and recognition,” Nsiah Asare said. “We women in football sometimes belittle ourselves in securing positions in sport. Due to that, we don’t get the needed support. It is time to go past that.”
Highlighting the gender imbalance at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), she noted, “Even at the GFA, there is only one woman on the executive board. Meanwhile, there are 20 Women Premier League teams. At least four women should be on the executive board.”
Nsiah Asare’s call serves as a timely reminder that for Ghanaian sports to reach its full potential, women’s contributions must be valued, respected, and supported across all levels of administration and participation.
