Division 2 League Struggling Due to Financial Constraints – Board Chairman

Chairman of the Division 2 League Board under the Greater Accra Regional Football Association (GARFA), George Aforklenyuie, has bemoaned the persistent financial challenges confronting the lower-tier football competition in Ghana.

According to him, clubs competing at this level are often burdened with costs such as officiating fees, transportation, accommodation, and player welfare — expenses that most of them struggle to meet due to limited sponsorship and minimal gate proceeds.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Sportsnite, Aforklenyuie pointed out that the lack of financial support remains the most pressing issue affecting the smooth running and overall growth of the Division 2 League.

“The lack of financial support is our biggest challenge in the Division 2 League,” he stated bluntly.

Aforklenyuie emphasized that despite the important role Division 2 clubs play in unearthing and nurturing football talent in Ghana, the system continues to operate under significant financial strain. He expressed worry that this could hinder the progress of young talents and discourage club owners and managers from continuing their efforts.
