Derrick Köhn Fires Warning to Germany Ahead of Black Stars Clash in Stuttgart
Union Berlin defender Derrick Köhn has issued a bold statement ahead of Ghana’s international friendly against Germany national football team, insisting there will be no room for friendships when the two sides meet.
The 27-year-old left-back, who features regularly in the Bundesliga, is set to come up against several familiar faces when the Black Stars take on the four-time world champions in Stuttgart on March 30.
Drawing from his weekly encounters with top German players at club level, Köhn believes he understands the strengths of his upcoming opponents. However, he made it clear that any personal relationships built over time will be put aside once the match kicks off.
“I know a lot of players from the Germany national team because I play every week against them. But on the field, we’re not friends. We want to beat them,” Köhn stated on Sporty FM.
The high-profile encounter forms part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with head coach Otto Addo using the fixture to fine-tune his squad against elite opposition.
For the Ghana national football team, the match presents a significant test of readiness as they gear up for a demanding World Cup campaign.
Ghana have been drawn into a challenging group alongside England national football team, Panama national football team, and Croatia national football team—a lineup that underscores the importance of strong performances in preparatory matches like the upcoming clash with Germany.
