Brandon Thomas-Asante Earns Late Black Stars Call-Up to Replace Injured Inaki Williams
Coventry City forward Brandon Thomas-Asante has been drafted into Ghana’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers following an injury to Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams.
Williams sustained the knock during his club’s La Liga encounter against Mallorca on Saturday, ruling him out of Ghana’s crucial doubleheader against the Central African Republic and Comoros.
Thomas-Asante, who has been in blistering form in the English Championship, was initially omitted from Otto Addo’s squad but has now been recalled to fill the void left by the Spain-based attacker. This marks his return to the Black Stars setup for the first time since featuring in the Unity Cup in May.
The in-form striker has already joined the national team camp ahead of their second training session on Monday, October 4, as preparations intensify for the two decisive matches.

The 25-year-old Coventry City man has rediscovered his scoring touch this season, registering five goals and providing three assists in nine league appearances. His latest heroics came over the weekend when he netted twice in Coventry’s commanding victory against Sheffield Wednesday.
Thomas-Asante has so far made four appearances for the Black Stars, scoring once since making his debut.
Ghana will face the Central African Republic in Morocco on Wednesday before returning home to host Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 12, as they look to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
