Berekum Chelsea head coach Samuel Boadu has insisted that his side was not outplayed by Asante Kotoko, despite suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat in the semifinals of the 2023/24 MTN FA Cup on Sunday.

The tense clash at the TNA Park in Tarkwa was settled by an 82nd-minute strike from Kotoko midfielder Albert Amoah, sending the Porcupine Warriors into the final.

Speaking after the match, Boadu, a two-time FA Cup-winning coach with Hearts of Oak, expressed frustration over the result but maintained that his side matched Kotoko in all aspects except goalscoring.

“They [Asante Kotoko] did not do anything better than my team. They scored us,” Boadu told reporters after the game. “Goalscoring is an opportunity. We got it, and we did not score, but they got it and they scored.”

Berekum Chelsea had spells of dominance and created a number of chances but lacked the finishing touch to convert their pressure into goals. The defeat ends their hopes of adding another FA Cup title to their trophy cabinet.

Asante Kotoko’s win sets up a highly anticipated final clash with second-tier side Golden Kick, who stunned Legon Cities in the other semifinal. The final is scheduled for June 15, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium.

For Boadu and Chelsea, attention now shifts back to the Ghana Premier League, where they continue to push for a top-four finish.
