Black Satellites head coach Desmond Ofei has expressed confidence in his squad’s mentality and preparation ahead of the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to take place in Egypt from April 27 to May 18.

Ghana, placed in a tough Group C, will face defending champions Senegal, DR Congo, and the Central African Republic in the group stage. Despite the stiff competition, Ofei believes the team is poised for a strong showing.

Speaking to the press as preparations intensify, the coach revealed the team’s positive mindset and commitment to the task ahead.

“We are really happy, and you can see the boys are enthusiastic about the whole situation,” Ofei said. “The hunger is there, so I don’t think we need to motivate them.”

He added that the energy in camp has been exceptional, with players giving their all in every training session.

“They’re giving 100% in every training session and are ready to give everything for the nation.”

Ghana, four-time winners of the U-20 AFCON (1993, 1999, 2009, and 2021), is aiming to reclaim its status as a dominant force in African youth football after recent setbacks.

The 2025 edition of the tournament also serves as a qualifier for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. The four semi-finalists from the competition will automatically secure spots to represent Africa on the world stage.
