Head coach of Ghana’s senior women’s national team, Kim Lars Björkegren, has admitted that his side is bracing for a challenging encounter when they take on the Teranga Lionesses of Senegal in an international friendly today, Saturday, April 5.

The match forms part of Ghana’s ongoing preparations for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), as the team continues a nine-day training camp in Senegal.

The two sides are set to meet twice, with a second fixture scheduled for Tuesday, April 8.

Speaking ahead of the weekend fixture, Coach Björkegren emphasized the physicality of the Senegalese team and stressed the need for his players to maintain a high tempo throughout the match.

“The game against Senegal tomorrow, I think it’s going to be a tough one. They play physically. It’s going to be a good game for us,” he told the Ghana Football Association’s media team.

Björkegren, who has been working with a full 22-player squad since arriving in Senegal, believes that tactical discipline and quick ball movement will be key to overcoming the hosts.

“We need to move the ball fast, but if we do that, I’m sure we have the potential to win the game,” he added confidently.

The Black Queens are looking to build on recent performances and continue their development under Björkegren, as they aim to be a competitive force in the upcoming WAFCON tournament.
