Bernard Aryee Questions Black Stars’ Competitive Spirit
Former Black Stars midfielder Bernard Aryee has raised concerns over the lack of competitiveness and team spirit in Ghana’s senior national team.
Aryee’s comments come at a time when the Black Stars are preparing for upcoming assignments, with questions being raised by many observers about the team’s cohesion and mentality on the pitch.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Fire for Fire, the ex-international, who was part of Ghana’s squad that won bronze at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, stated that the current generation of players lack the intensity and internal competition that defined past squads.
“The last time I had the chance to watch the Black Stars, it seems there is no challenge among themselves. During our time the competition was tough so everyone gave their best,” Aryee said.
“I’m not seeing that fire among the current players. They don’t look serious. Individually, we have good players but as a team there is no spirit in it,” he added.
The former midfielder’s words are a reminder of the high standards set by previous generations and the growing call for the current team to rediscover their collective drive and identity.
The Black Stars will play Mali and Chad next in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers next month
