Asante Kotoko Clinch FA Cup Title with Narrow Victory Over Golden Kick
Asante Kotoko secured their 10th MTN FA Cup title following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over lower-tier side Golden Kick FC in a gripping final held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Sunday evening.
The clash, staged before a packed crowd at Legon, lived up to its billing as an intense and dramatic encounter, with both sides showing urgency and flair from the onset.
Golden Kick created the game’s first real chance in the 12th minute when Joshua Fuseini’s dangerous delivery was cut back for Dacosta Owusu, whose close-range effort was expertly smothered by Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara.
The Porcupine Warriors drew first blood in the 17th minute. Lord Amoah, following a strong run on the right flank, won a free kick which he delivered expertly to the far post. Joseph Ablorh rose highest to head it into the path of Kwame Opoku, who tapped in from close range to give Kotoko the lead.

Golden Kick, undeterred by the early setback, responded with pressure of their own. Their persistence paid off in the 32nd minute when Bless Ege unleashed a spectacular long-range free kick that left Camara with no chance, leveling the score at 1-1.
The second half resumed with both sides seeking to tilt the balance. A defensive blunder from Henry Ansu nearly handed Golden Kick a second goal, but Joshua Fuseini failed to capitalize on the loose ball.

The introduction of Emmanuel Antwi in midfield gave Kotoko better control, and in the 54th minute, a fine sequence involving Antwi saw Kwame Opoku put the ball in the net, only for the flag to go up for offside.
Then came the defining moment in the 90th minute. Kotoko were awarded a controversial penalty following a coming together between Kwame Opoku and Golden Kick goalkeeper Kelvin Saaba. Despite protests from the underdogs, Opoku stepped up and calmly converted the spot-kick to seal the win.
