Asamoah Gyan Confident Black Stars Will Secure 2026 World Cup Qualification
Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has expressed confidence that the Black Stars will seal their qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as they approach the final stretch of the qualifiers.
Ghana, who are aiming for a fifth appearance at the global tournament, currently sit at the top of Group I and could confirm their ticket to North America with victory over the Central African Republic (CAR) on Wednesday — depending on the outcome of the clash between Comoros and Madagascar, who occupy second and third place respectively.
Speaking to 3 Sports, Gyan urged the players to stay focused and finish the job they have worked hard for throughout the campaign.
“We are very close. The players have their destiny in their hands. They have done all the work and must add the finishing touch. They should go out, play their hearts out and get the win,” he said.

The nation’s all-time leading scorer also acknowledged the pressure that comes with such decisive fixtures but believes the team has enough experience and composure to handle it.
“Some games come with good pressure and keep you on your toes. This is one of those games. I feel there is a bit of pressure, but that is normal. Some of the players did it in 2022 and I am sure they can handle it.”
The Black Stars will conclude their qualifying campaign with a home fixture against Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 12, 2025.
