Accra Lions returned to winning ways with an impressive 2-0 victory over Bechem United at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday in their Ghana Premier League Matchday 28 encounter.

After a goalless first half filled with drama and missed opportunities, second-half goals from Jacob Awoute and substitute Bernard Kesse were enough to secure a crucial three points for the hosts as they continue their battle against relegation.

Edmund Amakye delivered a dangerous cross, and Jacob Awoute was on hand to finish clinically, giving Lions a deserved lead. Bechem United tried to respond quickly, but goalkeeper Daniel Afful was alert to deny Abban’s close-range effort.

Accra Lions continued to push for a second goal. Amakye struck the crossbar with a brilliant solo effort before Yao Sokpoli and Nwafor combined well, only for Bechem’s Francis Acquah to intercept.

Coach Rainer Kraft made crucial substitutions, bringing on David Akintunde and Bernard Kesse for Sokpoli and Faris. The changes paid off almost instantly as Kesse capped off a sweeping move to double the lead.

Bechem United thought they had pulled one back when Abban headed in from a freekick, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Accra Lions managed the closing stages well, maintaining control and seeing out a vital win that boosts their survival hopes.

The result lifts Accra Lions further from the relegation zone, while Bechem United’s inconsistent run continues, hampering their top-four ambitions.
