2025 AFCON Qualifiers: Sam Johnson criticises Black Stars’ attitude after disappointing results
Sam Johnson criticises Black Stars' attitude after disappointing results
Former Ghana defender Sam Johnson has voiced his concerns over the attitude of Black Stars players following their disappointing start to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign.
After losing to Angola and drawing 1-1 with Niger, Ghana now faces a tough road to qualification, and Johnson believes the team’s mentality is part of the problem.
With crucial back-to-back matches against Sudan approaching, Johnson stressed the importance of commitment on the pitch.
Speaking to Peace FM, he said, “I will always stand by them but this time I am getting fed up because football you can go on the field and maybe the field is not good and things don’t go well but your attitude on the field show that you are committed to play for Ghana.”
According to the former Fernabache man, while losing and drawing are part of football, the effort and determination displayed on the field are key.
“Your attitude on the field you can be beaten football is normally if you are beaten you will take it like that if you are not beaten or play draw you will take it like.
“But it is always because for us to pick the losing side or draw but your attitude will make the country say that today the players have done well but it just didn’t work out,” he added.
Ghana’s doubleheader against Sudan is crucial, and Johnson’s comments reflect growing concern about the team’s performances and attitude ahead of the must-win games.
