Newly appointed interim head coach of Asante Kotoko, Abdul Karim Zito, has identified complacency within the playing squad as one of the key issues affecting the team’s performance.

Zito, who was unveiled to the media on Wednesday just a day after replacing the sacked Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, has been handed the responsibility of revitalising the team’s Premier League campaign and leading them through the latter stages of the FA Cup.

Speaking during his first press engagement, the experienced tactician was candid about his initial impressions of the squad.

“We met the players, we saw their predicament, so many problems,” Zito began.

“We went to the club house and I saw that they feel so comfortable. I don’t know Hearts of Oak, but I know Dreams FC — if sometimes human beings feel so comfortable, they forget their target in life,” he explained.

The former Dreams FC boss suggested that a lack of urgency and accountability off the pitch could be translating into inconsistent performances on it.

“So it is our problem not only on the field of play, and that is why as a coach you need to study psychology,” Zito added.

His comments signal a focus not only on tactics and performance but also on reshaping player mindset and restoring competitive hunger within the Kotoko camp.

Zito’s first task comes on home turf this weekend, when the Porcupine Warriors host Aduana Stars in a critical league clash. With Kotoko currently neck-and-neck at the top of the table, every point will be vital as they push for a title challenge and potential domestic double.
