Ghana U-15 head coach Yaw Preko has heaped praise on emerging talent John Andor, suggesting the young winger could become Ghana’s answer to Brazilian icon Neymar—if he receives the right mentorship and development.

Andor dazzled on the opening day of the 2025 African Schools Football Championship, bagging a brace to propel Ghana to a 2-0 win over Uganda at the University of Ghana Stadium. The electrifying performance not only secured all three points for the host nation but also ignited conversations about his immense potential.

Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, Coach Preko could hardly contain his admiration. “That guy is a gem,” he said emphatically.

“We have to keep an eye on him. When we went to Israel, everyone was talking about him. I’ve known him since I took over the U-15s. The first time I saw him at a Justify (talent identification) match, he was even smaller than he is now. But his speed, natural speed, stood out, and he could play on both flanks.”

Highlighting Andor’s raw talent and versatility, Preko continued: “What I have seen in this boy with his speed, if he gets the right people to handle him and the right steps to take, trust me, we might have our own version of Brazilian Neymar.”

Andor’s exploits in the championship are not an isolated case. He previously stood out as a crucial member of Ghana’s squad at the Mondialito Promise tournament in Israel earlier this year, where his performances earned widespread plaudits.

With the African Schools Football Championship underway and more eyes now on the rising star, Andor’s development could become a major focal point in Ghana’s football circles.
