“We Could Have Scored More Against Kotoko”- Rainer Kraft
Accra Lions head coach Rainer Kraft believes his team could have recorded a bigger victory margin against Asante Kotoko, had they been more clinical in front of goal during their emphatic 3-0 triumph in an outstanding Ghana Premier League Week 22 fixture.
The Lions dismantled Kotoko on Wednesday afternoon at the Accra Sports Stadium, with goals from Jacob Awoute, Yao Sokpoli, and David Akintunde sealing a comprehensive win. The result dealt a significant blow to Kotoko’s title ambitions, dropping them from first to third on the league standings.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Rainer Kraft praised his team’s discipline and tactical adaptability, while lamenting their missed chances.
“We scored three goals out of transition. We should have scored four or five goals if we were a bit clinical,” Kraft stated. “We are already happy and congrats to the team. We were very disciplined, we changed our style a bit in the match.”
Known for their high-pressing approach, Kraft explained that his team opted for a more measured strategy to counter Kotoko’s strengths.
“We are known to be a high pressing team but also know how to play against Asante Kotoko,” he added.
The victory sees Accra Lions continue their push away from the relegation zone, with growing confidence as the season heads into its crucial phase. They next face Heart of Lions in a tricky encounter, while Asante Kotoko must regroup quickly for a tough test against Nations FC in matchday 28.
With momentum on their side, Accra Lions will look to build on this landmark victory as they aim to finish the season strongly.
