Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Sports Committee, Vincent Ekow Assifuah has emphasized the need for revenues generated from international competitions to be reinvested into sports development in Ghana.

His remarks come in the wake of heightened discussions around the financial benefits from Ghana’s recent third-place finish at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where the Black Queens earned both prestige and prize money on the continental stage.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s SportsNite on July 30, 2025, Assafuah called for a deliberate and transparent allocation of funds earned through the participation of national teams in global and continental events.

“Monies derived from international competitions should be geared towards development,” he asserted.

His comments are seen as a broader call for accountability and sustainability in the sports sector, urging authorities to prioritize infrastructural growth, athlete development, and grassroots programs with the proceeds from such competitions.
