Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has called on head coach Otto Addo to use the Unity Cup tournament as a platform to showcase Ghana’s emerging talents while keeping senior players fresh for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

His comments come as Ghana prepares to face Nigeria in the semifinal of the 2025 Unity Cup at the Gtech Community Stadium in London. The four-nation tournament, which also includes Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago, is being used as part of the Black Stars’ preparations for more competitive engagements later in the year.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s SportsNite show ahead of Ghana’s highly anticipated match against Nigeria today, Badu highlighted the importance of striking a balance between youth development and strategic squad management.

“The coach, Otto Addo should give opportunities to the young players and reserve the senior ones for the World Cup qualifiers. This will help create healthy competition between the youth and the experienced players,” Badu stated.

The winner of the Ghana-Nigeria clash will progress to the final of the Unity Cup on Saturday, May 31, where they will face  Jamaica. The losing teams will battle for third place on the same day.
