Black Satellites captain Ofori McCarthy has expressed the squad’s preparedness and confidence ahead of their clash with DR Congo.

The highly anticipated Group C encounter will take place tonight at the New Suez Stadium in Egypt, where the tournament officially kicked off earlier this week.

Ghana, drawn in a challenging group alongside defending champions Senegal and the Central African Republic, begin their campaign against a formidable Congolese side.

Speaking to the media during a pre-match press conference, McCarthy assured fans that the team is fully focused and mentally prepared for the task ahead.

“We expect a very competitive game, but we are ready,” the captain said. “Our preparations have been good, and the team is highly motivated. This is a strong group, and our first game is crucial — we’re looking forward to it with great anticipation.”

McCarthy acknowledged the quality and threat of DR Congo but emphasized the Black Satellites’ determination to start the tournament on a strong note.

“We respect Congo, but we will give our best. It’s all about going into the game with the right mentality and how we approach the game,” he noted.

Ghana’s U-20 side enters the tournament with a rich history, having lifted the continental trophy four times and famously winning the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2009. That legacy, McCarthy added, is a source of pride and motivation for the current generation.

“Our goal is to qualify from the group stage and take it step by step from there,” he affirmed. “We know what this tournament means to Ghana and to us as young players. We are focused and ready to deliver.”

Kickoff is scheduled for 18:00 GMT. Ghanaian fans will be hoping for a strong start as the Black Satellites look to reclaim their place among Africa’s elite youth football nations.
