STMA Partners Ghana Cycling Federation to Launch Road Safety and Cycling Training Program
The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has announced a new partnership with the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF) to promote road safety, responsible cycling, and healthy living through a comprehensive Road Safety and Cycling Training Program scheduled for October 30, 2025.
The initiative was unveiled during a courtesy visit by Madam Vivian Aborah, Acting Head of the STMA Transport Department, to the Federation’s office in Accra. The visit formed part of ongoing preparations for the program, which seeks to educate road users on safety practices, encourage shared road culture, and promote cycling as both a sport and a sustainable mode of transport.
Madam Aborah emphasized that the training aligns with the Assembly’s broader mission of reducing road accidents, improving urban mobility, and fostering wellness across the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
During discussions, both parties identified key areas of collaboration, including:
-
Promotion of recreational cycling events in the metropolis.
-
Support for community and competitive cycling activities.
-
Advocacy for cycling as a tool for fitness and healthy living.
-
Expansion of the GCF’s School Cycling Project, which currently operates in the Greater Accra Region, to Sekondi-Takoradi — aimed at nurturing young talent and instilling road safety awareness at an early age.
The Ghana Cycling Federation welcomed the collaboration and pledged its full support to help create a safer and more cycling-friendly environment in the city.

The Federation also commended the counsel of Hon. Kobena Woyome, former Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Culture, and Arts, stressing the importance of stronger coordination with the Ministry of Roads and Highways. It called for the inclusion of dedicated cycling lanes—especially for children, beginners, and enthusiasts—in all new road construction projects nationwide.
“Cycling is not only a sport but also a sustainable and environmentally friendly mode of transportation that contributes to public health and emission-free mobility,” the Federation noted.
The STMA concluded by urging stakeholders, corporate bodies, and the public to support the upcoming program and related initiatives aimed at building a modern, safe, and inclusive transport system that caters to all road users.
