Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has assured the leadership of Asante Kotoko SC and the football community that individuals responsible for the tragic death of supporter Francis Frimpong Pooley will face the full force of the law.

Pooley, a passionate Kotoko fan, was fatally stabbed during a Ghana Premier League clash between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC at the Nana Koronmansah Park in Nsoatre. The incident occurred during their Week 19 encounter and has since sparked national outrage.

In a meeting with the Asante Kotoko management on Friday, Minister Kofi Adams expressed his sympathies and gave firm assurances about the government’s commitment to justice.

“We will not just condemn the incident [Pooley’s death] and leave it at that,” Adams assured.

He emphasized that the Ministry of Sports and Recreation was actively collaborating with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation.

“We need to [curb such incidents], and I am regularly in conversation with the IGP and taking briefs,” he stated.

Adams further stressed that the pursuit of justice would not be influenced by anyone’s social or political status.

“The Ministry is also monitoring the situation, and whoever is found to have played a role [in the fatal incident], it does not matter the status of the person, we will see to it that punishment is given to serve as a deterrent for others,” he declared.
