Semenyo Scores Again as Manchester City See Off Newcastle in Carabao Cup semi final first leg
Antoine Semenyo continued his remarkable start to life at Manchester City after opening the scoring in a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup semi-final at St. James’ Park.
The Ghanaian forward broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute, showing composure inside the box to put Pep Guardiola’s side in control of the tie. City maintained their dominance for much of the contest and sealed the win deep into stoppage time when Rayan Cherki added a second goal in the 90th minute.
Semenyo’s strike further underlined his instant impact at the Etihad, as he became the first player to score in each of his first two appearances for Manchester City in all competitions since Emmanuel Adebayor achieved the feat in August 2009.
The victory gives Manchester City an advantage heading into the second leg, with Semenyo once again continuing to justify the faith shown in him following his recent move to the club.
