Sannie Daara Blasts Sports Minister Over Black Stars Budget Disclosure
Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has strongly criticised Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams for publicly disclosing the Black Stars’ budget ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.
His comments come in the aftermath of Ghana’s frustrating 1-1 draw with Chad in N’Djamena on Matchday 7 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Jordan Ayew’s 17th-minute opener was cancelled late in the game by Celestine Ecau, leaving both sides to share the spoils.
Ahead of the qualifiers, Minister Adams announced the government-approved budget for the two September fixtures, a move that has since sparked backlash.
Speaking on Sporty FM, Sannie Daara described the timing of the disclosure as ill-judged and damaging to the team’s focus.
“Which military in the history of mankind has been so foolish to announce the reduction of salaries for soldiers before a war? The timing of the Black Stars’ budget was completely needless,” he fumed.
The CAF Senior Media Officer further claimed that the decision has drawn criticism even within Adams’ own political camp.
“A lot of people in the Minister’s own party, the NDC, are disappointed with the timing of the release of the Black Stars budget.”
He went on to issue a stern caution to the Sports Minister, urging him to refrain from comments that could create distractions for the squad.
“The Sports Minister, Kofi Adams, should shut up. He should let the Black Stars players focus on the World Cup qualifiers.”
Meanwhile, the Black Stars have returned home to prepare for their crucial Matchday 8 encounter against Mali on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium, with kickoff set for 19:00 GMT. Despite the setback in Chad, Ghana remain top of Group I with 16 points as they continue their push for qualification.
