Ouattara Reflects on Hard-Fought Win Over Berekum Chelsea
Accra Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara has admitted that his side’s narrow 1-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea on Sunday was anything but straightforward, praising his team’s tactical discipline and preparation.
The Phobians brought an end to Chelsea’s impressive 10-game unbeaten home streak at the Golden City Park in a tightly contested Ghana Premier League Round 31 fixture. Striker Mawuli Wayo netted the decisive goal in the 56th minute, capitalising on a rare defensive lapse from the hosts.
Speaking in a post-match interview aired by Peace FM, Ouattara lauded the quality of their opponents while revealing the tactical approach Hearts used to nullify Chelsea’s threats.
“This match is not an easy match playing against Berekum Chelsea. They are just coming from the semi of the FA Cup. They have another motivation,” Ouattara said. “The players are together for one or two, three seasons. My younger brother, Coach Boadu, is one of the experienced coaches in the game.”
He added, “We prepared ourselves according to their weakness to prevent everything coming from them.”
The result is a massive boost to Hearts of Oak’s push for a strong finish to the season and puts them in good form heading into their penultimate match.
Hearts will return to action on May 25, when they face city rivals Accra Lions in what promises to be another intense showdown in the closing stages of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign.
