Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has outlined his ambitions for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, expressing his determination to guide Ghana beyond the group stage for the first time in over a decade.

The upcoming tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, presents a major opportunity for Ghana to reaffirm its reputation as one of Africa’s football powerhouses on the global stage.

Addo, who also led Ghana to qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, is eager to build on that experience. The Black Stars exited at the group stage in 2022 despite showing glimpses of quality and resilience.

Speaking to 3Sports, the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder said his ultimate goal is to take Ghana a step further and make a lasting impression in North America.

“I want to overcome the group stage, but then, from there, it’s difficult to predict,” Otto said. “It’s very, very important that we believe in ourselves, we keep the flexibility which we have already, and the players understand what we want to do. This style of play for the long term will give us a lot of chances to go far in that World Cup.”

Addo emphasized that belief, tactical discipline, and adaptability will be crucial to the team’s success, noting that the current squad possesses the right mix of youth and experience to challenge the world’s best.

Ghana will learn their group-stage opponents on December 5, 2025, when the official World Cup draw takes place in Washington, D.C.
