Otto Addo Keeps Djiku Decision Under Wraps Ahead of Mali Clash

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has refused to disclose whether defender Alexander Djiku will feature in Ghana’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.

Djiku, a key figure in Ghana’s backline, was absent from the 1-1 draw with Chad in N’Djamena last Thursday after travelling to Moscow for medical assessments. His possible return has generated major interest as the Black Stars prepare for a decisive Group I showdown.

However, Addo made it clear during the pre-match press briefing that he has no intention of revealing his selection plans.

“I will never make statements about who will play or who will not,” Addo told journalists. “It’s not against you, but I don’t want Mali to know who will play. So, I will never make any statements about players who are playing and players who are not. It’s also always good to surprise the opponent. So, that’s why.”

The Black Stars currently lead Group I with 16 points, just one ahead of Comoros, while Mali remain in third place on 12 points. With qualification hopes hanging in the balance, Monday’s clash in Accra could prove pivotal in Ghana’s bid to reach their fifth World Cup tournament.
