Otto Addo Hails Jordan Ayew’s Leadership and Consistency
Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has heaped praise on team captain Jordan Ayew for his exceptional leadership and crucial contribution during Ghana’s successful qualification campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Leicester City forward captained Ghana throughout the qualifiers, guiding the team to secure their fifth World Cup appearance, which will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Ayew was instrumental to the Black Stars’ qualification, registering 14 goal involvements — scoring seven goals and assisting seven in 10 appearances, underlining his importance both as a finisher and a creator.
Speaking in an interview with Joy Sports, Otto Addo was full of admiration for Ayew’s consistency, discipline, and ability to inspire his teammates on and off the pitch.
“Since the day I came, he’s been good,” Addo remarked.
“I predominantly see him as a center forward. He’s a great leader. The most important thing is that we have clarity and unity in the team.”
Ayew’s leadership has been widely credited as a driving force behind Ghana’s resurgence under Addo, with the 33-year-old leading by example in several key matches during the qualifiers.
The experienced forward is now set to make his third World Cup appearance, having previously represented Ghana at the 2014 tournament in Brazil and the 2022 edition in Qatar.
With Ayew at the helm and a rejuvenated squad behind him, Ghana will aim to make a strong impression when the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off across North America.
