Former Ghana star Nii Odartey Lamptey has shed new light on his turbulent stint with Eleven Wonders, suggesting the club’s internal struggles run far deeper than what has so far been made public.

His remarks come in the wake of veteran trainer J.E. Sarpong’s decision to walk away from the club after only a few weeks in charge. Sarpong’s abrupt exit was accompanied by troubling revelations about poor player welfare, including inadequate meals, unpaid salaries stretching into several months, and players resorting to public transport to attend training.

While Lamptey stepped away from the team earlier, he now indicates that the issues he witnessed mirror—and even exceed—Sarpong’s concerns.

Speaking on Asempa FM, the former midfielder stressed that he should not be blamed for the team’s struggles at the start of the campaign, insisting that he did everything within his capacity to steady the club.

“The challenges of Eleven Wonders were not down to me, and the players are aware of that. Whatever I know in the game, I did that to save the club, and if I tell you what I did for the club, you would be surprised, and that is why I have decided to stay mute because the club should know better.”

Lamptey added that Sarpong’s brief experience only scratches the surface of the real issues.

Reflecting on Sarpong’s comments, he stated:

“With whatever J.E. Sarpong has said, I have billions of them, but to me, it is not necessary because I am happy that an experienced coach like J.E. Sarpong has come out to say some of these things after just working with the club for three weeks, it tells you there is something wrong with the club somewhere, but whatever he has said, I have billion of them but I just hope that the wrongs will be corrected so that the players will be able to play well because at the end of the day, it Ghana football that will suffer,” he added.

Eleven Wonders find themselves bottom of the Ghana Premier League table after 11 rounds of matches, picking up only three points and still searching for their first win of the season. As they prepare to welcome Dreams FC to the University of Ghana Stadium in Matchday 12, the club will be desperate to turn their disappointing campaign around.
