Former Youth and Sports Minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has voiced his reservations about the true progress of the Black Stars, despite their emphatic wins in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana recently impressed with back-to-back victories—first, a dominant 5-0 thrashing of Chad on March 21 at the Accra Sports Stadium, followed by a 3-0 win over Madagascar on March 24

. The results have seen the team strengthen their hold at the top of Group I with 15 points, three ahead of Comoros and five clear of Madagascar.

However, in an interview with CitiSports, the former Member of Parliament expressed skepticism regarding the team’s development under current management.

“I think the two matches we have played so far don’t give me any indication that there has been an improvement in the team, even though we’ve won those matches by wide score lines,” Vanderpuye stated.

“I want to see a Ghana national team that will strike fear or put every other team on alert that they are playing Ghana, whether you are Argentina or Brazil,” he added.

While the wins have placed Ghana in a strong position to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, Vanderpuye’s comments highlight a growing call for not just results, but performances that reflect consistent tactical evolution and international competitiveness.
