Former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has made it clear he is not yet ready to walk away from professional football, insisting he still feels physically and mentally prepared to continue his career.

The 36-year-old returned to club football this season after signing with Dutch Eredivisie side NAC Breda on a short-term deal following his departure from French club Le Havre. Ayew joined the Dutch outfit as a free agent and is currently working his way back to full match sharpness.

Although the U-20 World Cup winner last featured for Ghana during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, he believes retirement is not a subject he needs to consider at this stage of his career.

“I never thought about it because my body is good, I feel good. I live my life day to day, so I prepare myself every time to have a better tomorrow on the field and off the field,” Ayew said in an interview with ESPN.

He added that he would only step aside when his body signals that the time is right. “I don’t think about that. When the moment comes, your body will tell you,” he noted.

Since arriving in the Netherlands, Ayew has featured in six league matches for NAC Breda, starting once as he gradually regains full match fitness. The former Black Stars skipper remains focused on contributing on the pitch while keeping his options open for both club and international football.
