Director of Communications for the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Mohammed Amin Lamptey, has raised alarm over the growing concern of fixed fights in the Ghanaian boxing landscape, describing it as a major threat to the integrity and future of the sport.

Lamptey’s remarks come at a time when Ghanaian boxing is struggling to regain its former global prominence, having produced legendary figures like Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey, and Joshua Clottey. However, concerns about match manipulation, poor officiating, and lack of transparency in fight outcomes have clouded the sport’s reputation in recent years.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Sportsnite, Lamptey did not mince words about the seriousness of the issue, calling for urgent reforms and stricter oversight to protect the credibility of professional boxing in Ghana.

“Fixed fights are one of the major red flags in Ghana boxing, as they undermine the quality and integrity of the sport,” he stated.

Calls are growing for the GBA and its stakeholders to implement stringent policies to detect and punish match-fixing, improve fight vetting procedures, and build a more professional and transparent environment for boxers, promoters, and fans alike.
