Memphis Depay Plans Friendly Match Between Corinthians and Asante Kotoko
Dutch international Memphis Depay has announced his intention to organize a friendly match between his Brazilian club, Corinthians, and Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko.
Depay, who is in Ghana for the Christmas holidays, has been engaging in various activities, including charitable endeavors.
On Thursday morning, he made a surprise visit to Asante Kotoko’s training grounds at Adako Jachie, where the team was preparing for their Matchweek 15 Ghana Premier League clash against Bibiani GoldStars.
During his visit, Depay interacted with the players, offering motivational words and praising their hard work.
“I like what I see, and I encourage you to keep going. Never give up. I respect all of you,” Depay said.
The Barcelona and Lyon alumnus further revealed his ambitious plan to bridge continents through football by arranging a friendly match between Kotoko and Corinthians.
“I’m working on arranging something for the team, maybe a friendly match against my team (Corinthians) in Brazil. It’s in the plans, so let’s hope we can make it happen so you can showcase your talent,” he added.
The Porcupine Warriors, currently 5th in the league standings with 24 points from 13 matches, will be seeking to close the gap on the 2nd-placed GoldStars, who have 27 points.
