Head coach of Medeama Sporting Club, Ibrahim Tanko, has confirmed that the team will shift full focus to preparations for next season’s Ghana Premier League campaign after falling out of the title race this term.

The Tarkwa-based outfit currently occupies sixth place on the 2024/25 league log with just two matches left to play. With a 10-point gap between them and league leaders Nations FC, the reigning champions are mathematically out of contention to retain their title.

Speaking to Medi TV ahead of Medeama’s crucial Week 33 fixture against Asante Kotoko, Coach Tanko acknowledged the improvement in the team’s performance under his leadership and reiterated the club’s ambition to bounce back stronger next season.

“The performance of the team has increased since I took over. It’s important for me to plan for next season,” Tanko stated.

“In the two games remaining, we are going to give our best to win so that we will plan well for next season. The league title race is over for us. Definitely after this weekend, we will see who will take the league,” he added.

Medeama SC, who lifted the league title for the first time in the 2022/23 season, have endured an inconsistent campaign marked by managerial changes and early CAF Champions League elimination. However, the club’s recent form has shown signs of recovery under Tanko’s guidance.

The Yellow and Mauve side will look to finish the season on a strong note when they travel to face Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, June 1. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
