Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has voiced his frustration over his team’s wastefulness in front of goal, despite securing a 2-1 victory over Basake Holy Stars in their Ghana Premier League clash.

While the Tarkwa-based side picked up back-to-back wins, Tanko was left disappointed by his players’ failure to capitalize on key scoring opportunities.

Speaking in his post-match interview, Tanko lamented his side’s lack of clinical finishing, particularly in the first half.

“We had a lot of chances in the first half and should have scored a minimum of two or three goals,” he said.

Medeama found themselves trailing 1-0 after Issah Yakubu’s opener for Basake Holy Stars, but they responded before halftime through Kamaradini Mamudu’s equalizer. The winning goal arrived late, courtesy of Derrick Fordjour in the 89th minute.

Tanko also pointed out his team’s defensive lapses, emphasizing the importance of keeping clean sheets.

“The only thing I am not happy about is the fact that we did not keep a clean sheet,” he admitted.

Despite the defensive concerns, the victory lifts Medeama to fourth place on the league table with 38 points, six points adrift of leaders Bibiani Gold Stars.
