Maxwell Konadu Urges Patience for Otto Addo Amid Black Stars Rebuild

Former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu has appealed to Ghanaians to show patience and support for current head coach Otto Addo as he embarks on rebuilding the national team.

In an interview with Akoma 87.9 FM, Konadu acknowledged the passionate nature of Ghanaian football supporters and the intense scrutiny that comes with managing the national team — particularly following recent disappointments such as failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

“Ghanaians adore football; when things go well, they lavish praise on you; when things go wrong, the country becomes split, and that is how the game has sadly become,” Konadu said.

Otto Addo, who was reappointed as head coach in early 2024, has already begun to shift the narrative after guiding the Black Stars to back-to-back wins over Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March.

Despite the progress, Konadu stressed that building a competitive team takes time — a luxury not often afforded in the modern football environment.

“We simply need to be patient occasionally [with Otto Addo], but how many individuals can be patient? Today’s generation will not be patient with you,” he remarked.

With crucial World Cup qualifiers scheduled for September 2025, Konadu’s words serve as a reminder of the importance of stability and faith in the technical team as the Black Stars aim to return to the world stage.
